Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. – 2 Pet. 3:9
God is not slack. “Slack” is the Greek braduno (Strong’s G1019), which means “delayed or slow.” In 2 Peter 3, Scripture is specifically referencing Jesus’ promise to come again: for the righteous to be taken up into heaven and for the “ungodly” to be cast into hell (v 7). Just because Jesus is taking longer than you expect does not mean He is no longer coming! Because “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (v 8). What you perceive as an unnecessary delay is actually His undeserved mercy.
God’s timing is not your timing. He doesn’t delay! He doesn’t make mistakes. He is always right on time. So if you’re waiting for an answer to prayer, does it mean that He hasn’t heard? Certainly not. It simply means that God will not be rushed. He wants to build your faith in Him in ways that would be impossible if you immediately got what you wanted.
God is not slack. He does not delay! Submit to His timing and His will, and watch how absolutely joyful your life becomes in Him.
Prayer:
Father, help me to relax and take my time. I submit to Your will! I submit to Your purposes and Your plans for my life. You have full permission to work on Your schedule. I will no longer pretend to pressure You to work on mine, in Jesus’ name.
